jason andrew bowles

jasonís pieces are a combination of minimal organic blocks of paper with a touch of geometry. he tries to create pieces that retain an inherent nostalgic feel. the familiarity you find within this work may be from the age old architecture that you experienced in some small town. or maybe you have been to the river and seen similar colors upon the bank in which you were fishing. or perhaps you have lifted an old board from the ground and discovered dirt, mosses, and smells of grime. these are examples of unforced natural processes of age, color and texture that you are experiencing. through similar processes, he wishes to bring the viewer back to the roots of our existence. jason feels humans have a tendency to live within a fantastical idea of beauty that does not truly exist within the world we live. a great amount of things that are labeled beautiful, either consciously or subconsciously, are plastic, or based around cost, speed, or geometric perfection. for this reason, one should remember that the romance of an antiquated aged barn is free, and should not be stifled by crass ideas of vinyl siding.
