jimmy baker
jimmy baker was born in the rural city of dover, ohio. he studied painting at the columbus college of art and design, while his band the awakening toured the united states twice, and released 4 records. this undergraduate experience was a mixture of conceptual art training, and local political activism.
after obtaining his bfa degree in fine arts, jimmy was accepted to the university of cincinnatiís graduate painting program on a full tuition waiver and teaching stipend. during these two years of graduate study, he has been exhibited in over 11 regional shows. bakerís brief meeting with renowned author and professor erika doss (university of colorado at boulder,) resulted in her graciously writing a foreword for his 2003 solo show "400 billion car pile-up on the information superhighway". this show set attendance records at the artery for upward of 500 patrons at the opening alone.
jimmy has taught undergraduate courses in painting and drawing at the university of cincinnati both years he attended the program. upon receiving his mfa degree in june 2004, he will continue to pursue collegiate teaching as a full-time career along with producing and showing his work. he will begin assisting the publico art space (cincinnati, ohio) in assisting them with acquiring national artists and developing a network with other alternative and independent art spaces across the country.
