Lori D is interested in the contrast between contemporary Western popular cultures of materialismand "primitive" cultures built on the passing down of stories and ritual through time. She works in a style inspired by folk art, primitive art and religious manuscripts and asks what contemporaryWestern folklore looks like. Her special affection for creating characters who are enraptured in outof-date styles has a way of demystifying and removing authority from the present systems at workin materialistic identity construction.
