neils is interested in the juxtaposition of images. his paintings hold a fractured cohesion born from the disparity and blending of tv, life, and the internet that affect his aesthetic understanding. each element that binds his paintings acts as a visual marker, or mental quotation, that stirs the memory or instinct with an intended direction, but alters course when met with apposed imagery creating a fork in the road where content is concerned. the image and the material all play a function in the painted experience, but in the end he truly can only state that he paints because he likes the physical act, which is hypnotic and stimulating. how and why he paint is much like how he watches tv-via channel-surfing.
